Young Texas couple struggles after husband's unexpected illness

A young Texas couple was doing well until 18 months ago. Both husband and wife are in their 20s, and they have a son who celebrated his first birthday in June.

However, it was on the day that their child was born that the husband noticed he was not feeling well. He was hospitalized three weeks later for Erythropoietic Protoporphyria or EPP. The EPP resulted in blood deficiency and liver failure. He's undergone a liver transplant.  He also underwent bone marrow transplant that was not successful. He will now have to undergo another bone marrow transplant during the coming month.

He was unable to hold onto his job and has spent months in the hospital.  Other than the disability payments he receives, the only income the family receives is through his wife's employment.  She now has to commute 50 miles each morning and has to otherwise keep the household running.

The couple is barely keeping pace in paying off the mortgage or purchasing groceries.  Most importantly an assistance program that helps the couple purchase medication does not provide enough for his 12 daily prescriptions.  They are a family described as being one crisis away.

Individuals suffering from disabling medical conditions often do not know where to turn for help.  Social Security disability attorneys can often help such individuals locate the assistance they need.  The needs of families under such circumstances are often unique and require individual attention.  These families also need strong representation in making certain every possible financial option is considered.
