Knowing what types of illnesses qualify for Social Security disability benefits is essential or disabled individuals to understand. Many of them need those important benefits which is why they should understand in what circumstances they may qualify for them.

Social Security disability benefits for illness may be available for a long list of illnesses. It is important to note that the disabling medical condition that the disabled individual suffers from must be severe enough that it prevents them from working in order for them to qualify for Social Security disability or SSD benefits. The disabling medical condition must also be expected to last for 12 months or longer or result in death. The application process for SSD benefits can be arduous which is why it is important for disabled individuals to be familiar with how to navigate that process.

Medical illnesses that may qualify for Social Security disability benefits include musculoskeletal illnesses; respiratory illnesses; cardiovascular medical conditions; digestive tract illnesses; neurological disorders; blood disorders; mental disorders; immune system disorders; and senses and speech illnesses such as vision and hearing loss. Under these categories are a number of different illnesses for which a disabled individual suffering may qualify for Social Security disability benefits if he or she is suffering from one of them.

Even if the medical condition the disabled individual suffers from is not on the list, they may be able to obtain SSD benefits by demonstrating that they meet the requirements to qualify based on their medical records and information related to other requirements. Qualifying for SSD benefits is not unimportant for disabled individuals seeking them which is why they should understand what types of medical conditions may qualify.
